Talking Social Media at the #eventprofs Meetup

A brilliant turn-out for this month’s Event Managers’ Meetup, which took place at CodeNode on South Place, London on Thursday evening.

More than 30 #eventprofs turned out to see guest speaker Sade Laja, head of digital engagement  at the Digital Catapult gave a fantastic talk about how to build a delegate base for events using social media and content planning. Laja used the Catapult’s launch season as a case study: when the centre opened its doors, it played host to over 2,000 delegates from 1,100 organisations for 40 events over an intense 33-day business festival. Her talk was full of practical hints and tips to help the audience grow their own social media followings and drive attendance at their events.

Meetup organiser Alex Vail then took to the stage to present a five point plan for #eventprofs to master social media for their conferences and live events [Presentation on Slideshare].

With dozens of questions from the audience – and with many sharing examples of which tricks and tools had worked for them – the session over-ran slightly, before the SkillsMatter team took delegates on a tour of the event spaces in the UK’s largest technology events facility.

At the end of the evening, Vail announced the date for the next Meetup – Monday 11th July, which will look at Running Landmark Events, with guest speaker Tom O’Leary, director of learning at the Science Museum, who is this week busy running TEDxLondon. Save the date!
